Writing Thought Stimulating Content
Thought is the most powerful use of energy in the entire Universe, so naturally writing thought stimulating content for your site has got to be good, right? Yet why do so many marketers target the emotions rather than the thought power of their visitors’ minds?
Well for one thing, it’s easier to trigger emotions than it is to stimulate thought. Unfortunately, when you go after emotions, you inevitably create impulse buyers. Impulse buyers are the sort who end up saying, “well it seemed like a good idea at the time,” and go off disappointed when reality hits.
So while its easier to grab the emotional heartstrings of one of these people, in the long run they usually won’t contribute to your over all credibility, and often will wind up doing you damage.
Another reason why it’s easier to make an impulse rather than an educated sale, is because normally, those who target emotion really have no other way to go. The products they’re promoting have no other value than to make people feel they’re getting something terrific, when in reality they offer up nothing good or new.
Honestly, if marketers only promoted products with real value, writing thought stimulating content for them would be no problem at all. Every bit of enthusiasm in the sales copy would be based on facts instead of emotional stirring information.
Also, getting someone to think can be one of the hardest things to accomplish while getting people to feel is pretty much the easiest. So creating thought stimulating content takes, ummm, a lot of thought.
On the other hand, putting your efforts into thought stimulation geared toward a good and useful product can add so much more to your campaigns. So while its harder to do, the rewards are greater.
Educating people with thought provoking fact is fundamentally the best way to gain credibility and authority. Visitors generally approach sales copy with a predisposed amount of skepticism to begin with, so communicating facts will help eliminate some of that and replace it with apparent intelligent reliability.
And while we’ve been talking about thought in regard to product buying, thought stimulating can be beneficial even when you’re not promoting anything.
Just putting the idea out there that you’re the person to go to when people need facts will bolster your authority. So when you are ready to sell something, you have predisposed avid listeners who’ll more than likely take your recommendations seriously.
And here’s the best reason of all to be creating thought stimulating content . . .
Knowledge is emotionally stimulating too!
Turning the lights on in someone’s head is an extremely powerful emotional experience both for the receiver and the one teaching. In fact, entire social movements have emerged throughout history simply because one person found enlightenment and passed it on.
Just think back to the last time you read or heard something that made you say, “Gee, I never thought of that before,” to see how something thought stimulating has an emotional impact to it too.
Now the difference between this type of thought stimulating emotional experience and merely targeting emotion outright is, thought stimulating targets positive results connected to assured awareness. The latter goes after emotions like fear and urgency.
So yes, writing thought stimulating content is harder to do, but if you want to be taken as a credible source for good reliable products, then you’ll put some real thought into converting to it. If you find it hard, try practicing without a product connected to your content. Think about what you can teach people, then go with that. It’ll get easier over time and you’ll be building your authority as you go.
